Water scarcity is a genuine and growing constraint in parts of Kenya, particularly along the arid coast and in the country's drier regions, and solar-powered desalination sits at a useful intersection: it addresses a real infrastructure gap while creating meaningful demand for the same renewable generation capacity the broader energy transition needs anyway. It remains an early-stage sector in Kenya specifically, with more potential than precedent so far.

We advise on the feasibility and financing of solar-powered desalination and related water infrastructure, work that sits at what we think of as the energy-water nexus: technical feasibility that has to account for both power supply and water demand simultaneously, and financing structures, often blended, that reflect the development-impact case alongside the commercial one. As with green hydrogen, most of our current work in this sector is early feasibility and market entry advisory rather than late-stage capital raising, honest reflection of how nascent the sector still is here.
